About

M Winkler Author PhotoHi there! Welcome to The Brainy Babe!

Some people have asked, “Why ‘The Brainy Babe’?” The reason for my name is complex. First, I like the combination of brains and beauty. I think we’ve all got beauty to share and if we’ve got the brains to do it, we’ll succeed in life in general. Secondly, when I established my publishing company, Brainy Babe Micro Pub, I looked forward to publishing lots of non-fiction works, so it seemed to make sense.

I had no clue that when I named my blog ‘The Brainy Babe’ years ago, one day I’d talk about neurons in everyday conversations and meditation classes. Funny how life works, huh?

In addition to being a professional writer, I’m also a Neurosculpting® Meditation Facilitator. I teach classes online and in Denton, Texas, with more classes coming soon.

I grew up in Texas and I absolutely love Denton. It’s one of my favorite places on earth! I love science, meditation, yoga, sushi, whiskey, singing bowls, kayaking, wine, tacos, philosophical debates, drinks at Paschall Bar and laughing with Paul Slavens (if you’re from Denton, I know you feel me), painting pictures, living by my planner, driving fast and breathing slowly — life’s all about balance.

I never thought I could meditate — I just couldn’t get my mind to slow down enough. When a good friend of mine started talking about Neurosculpting® on Facebook, I was intrigued. I began asking questions and read a book that, quite honestly, changed my life: New Beliefs, New Brain: Free Yourself from Stress and Fear, by Lisa Wimberger. I loved the integration of science and spirituality and I simply HAD to try a Neurosculpting® class for myself. I experienced so much change during that first class that I immediately knew I had to become an ambassador of this amazing modality myself.

Neuroscience + Meditation = Neurosculpting®

My classes — both online and in person — are relaxed and welcoming. They’re perfect for beginners and practiced meditators alike. I can’t wait to see you there.

  1. Hello Meg, I received a sort of “referral” to you on an astrology blog I frequent. The person’s name, or the only name I know her by, is Nota. She stated that you are cool with Scorps and are a writer and that you’re interested in military history. I hope I’m not on a wrong track here. I’m a self-disciplined writer–I’ve loved writing since I was 10–but have only received rejections from literary agents for years. I’m currently working on Book 8 of an 11-book Civil War series, following the paths of two dozen officers (North & South) through the war. Agents won’t take a chance on a first time writer whose books average 400+ pages, and as I’m working on a shorter collection of personal short stories I’m still trying to find a way to get my stuff seen and, hopefully, hook people to want to read more. It’s taken me a month to send this to you, because I’m unfamiliar with self-publishing, or micro-publishing, or kindle-publishing, and being a Scorpio Sun I am quite cautious about how to proceed outside of my obviously failed “traditional” way of doing things. So, hello Meg, I am following Nota’s advice and contacting you to see if you can help me understand how I can possibly make positive strides in publishing my writing somehow this year.
Thank you for any time and consideration you may give to me.

    1. Hi M.D.,
Nota is a dear friend of mine, and the best sister-in-law I could ask for. And yes, I’m very cool with Scorpios and I’d love to help. Nota has deemed me a Certified Scorpio Handler 😉

The world of publishing is indeed changing and there’s a surge in self-publishing. I’m happy to help & I’ll shoot you an email at the address you used here on the site.
      Thanks!
      Meg

  2. Thank you for responding, Meg. I do appreciate it. In the past 24 hours I’ve actually become pretty enthusiastic about putting my stuff out there. On the blog I frequent, the woman who hosts the site just published her book on kindle and made it sound easy, so I decided I’m going to proof Book One of my Civil War series (11 books) and try to get it on kindle within the month. This will be my first time, and I’m curious about rights issues, handling taxes every year, how to handle the royalties, etc. The last thing I want to do is get into this thing and bungle my entire life’s worth of work because I didn’t know exactly what I was doing. Though people had mentioned it in the past to me, this is all completely new…but considering my history with publishers and agents (probably over 200 rejections easy) I feel this is my best bet. And if Book One picks up, the rest are assured. It’s a very exciting time, if you can give some tips to a newbie like me I’d really appreciate it. Thank you again.

  3. Hello
Really interesting stuff. I was just wondering where you got the logo for your blog from (the brain tree). I am a teacher and have been asked to create a logo for a new growth mindset inititive and the tree would fit perfectly. However, I just want to make sure we are not infringing on any copyright issues. Would we have your permission to use it and alter the colour slightly to match the school colours? Thank you

    1. Hi Catherine! I believe I got it on Fotolia.com. I don’t own the rights to the image, but you might be able to edit it if you purchase the original. I would suggest Googling “brain tree,” actually! Good luck!
